Daniel Smiley

Daniel Smiley is the Research & Logistics Specialist with the APPTA Hub as well as Dalhousie University’s Community Health & Epidemiology Department. With APPTA, Daniel’s responsibilities include research, outreach, and scriptwriting for the MileAGE podcast; infographic and document design; copywriting and knowledge translation for the Reasearch Roundup series; and editorial support for APPTA’s other published documents. Daniel strives to make complex, academic subject matter easily digestible through visual design and clear writing.

Before joining APPTA, Daniel was a Digital Producer at Penguin Random House UK, designing products that complemented authors’ books. Daniel has designed a wide variety of digital products for the film, television, and publishing sectors including websites, games, voice apps, and chatbots. Daniel has a Master’s in Media Production, where his research focused on finding innovative ways to build communities online. Daniel is interested in how technological innovation can improve well-being and quality of life.

Outside of work, Daniel is an avid board gamer, traveler, and hiker. He has also been teaching and performing comedy improv for more than 10 years, and has toured through the southern UK with his improv troupe.
